Houston Mopar Connection Club's Activity Director and Halloween Car Show Coordinator Charles Williams writes:
The 18th Annual Halloween Classic Car Show was once again a giant success. We had 119 registered vehicles ranging from a 1931 Model A "Little Vicki" to a 2026 Electric Lamborghini. (It's a child's car, but the only Lamborghini we ever had at our show.) Mother Nature was very good to us with such a beautiful day, and we had a lot of wonderful people and their vehicles.
We want to thank the Harris County Sheriff's Department Reserves for keeping us safe on the property while having a great time interacting with the participants and spectators. The Houston Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association did a great job in monitoring and helping the flow of traffic and people into the show areas. Special thanks to Joe Depedro, George Delmar, Candace Adolph, Ray and all the volunteers who helped set up and take down all the equipment, tables, and chairs before and after the show. That in itself is very time-consuming and hard to do.
Registration is always a hectic task for car shows however, Pam Wiman, Athena, Kyra and Leslie Weaver did an amazing job in processing the applications, filling out the car signs, and judging sheets while helping the participants in figuring out which of the 40 classes to put their vehicle in. They also were helping the 82 preregistered vehicles receive their car sign, judging sheets, dash plaques, museum tickets, and the Halloween Car Show shirts. Mac Haik Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram has sponsored all the show shirts for preregistered entries for many years.
Candace Adolph has been our DJ for all the years and did a magnificent job playing music and making announcements throughout the show.
Karen Foster helped set up the silent auction; Walter and Leslie Weaver continued to monitor it to the end and helped people in the bids. We made some nice money during the show.
The Houston Classic Chevy Club did an outstanding job in judging all the vehicles. The process went so smoothly and made it easy in totaling the results and putting the vehicles in the classes for the awards presentations. Thanks for a special group of our club members, Pam Wiman and Eddie Foster, in selecting the special and top awards and did a marvelous job in each of the selections.
Thank you to our trophy sponsors who helped us with the expense of the show. They are Mac Haik Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, The Dead DJs, Clark Freight Lines, Ward's Mopar City, Eddie's Handyman Service, Christmas Time Yard Art, Lisa Moser, Bluespring Wealth, WFMC (ask someone what it means), The National Museum of Funeral History, Jayroe Services, and Bubba Dawg Inc.
Pam and Candace held the Costume Contest at noon and had a great time watching and judging the costumes of the contestants and presenting them with awards.
Karen Foster went around and photographed and documented the participating vehicles in the show area to be used during the awards presentation.
As for every year, the awards were held in the auditorium using a PA, and Karen operated a laptop connected to an overhead projector. When the vehicle number was announced, a picture of the vehicle was up on the big screen. This gave the assembly of participants to be able to not only know the owner(s) who were given a trophy, but what vehicle they brought to display. We had our special trophy presenters, Theo and Aubree, along with guidance from Eddie Foster, and they had a great time passing out the trophies to the winners.
As each of the entries were called out, the assembly gave a round of applause, especially seeing the vehicles on the big screen. This is one of my favorite parts of the show. George Delmar and I are the ones calling out the winners, and as always, I will try to keep it lively and jokingly and thank everyone for their participation in the show.
Again, without our volunteers, which are basically our ambassadors to the show, we would not be one of the greatest shows in Texas. Thanks to Pam Wiman for all the hard work she did in preparing and supporting the show. Karen and Eddie Foster for undertaking all of the assignments they accomplished. Joe Depedro, George Delmar, Ray, Athena, Kyra for everything they did to help. Gary H. for setting up the online show preregistration system as well as creating web pages about all the BOO! Halloween shows. And thanks to any other volunteers that were not mentioned as well.
My Personnel Note:
This was so much more than a car show. It was a chance for people to bring out their beautiful vehicles and show them and dress them up in this festive holiday spirit. We were able to raise funds for our local charities while having a great time doing it. Everyone was enjoying a beautiful day together looking at vehicles, sharing stories, listening to fantastic music and enjoying the fellowship of each other. All the deputies had a great time and kept the peace for us throughout the day. The Houston Citizens Police Academy Alumni also had a great time while helping in the show.
When we started with the first show so many years ago, I had no idea that we would have done 18 years with such success and happiness. We have met so many fantastic people who love showing their cars, dressing up, and having a great time while helping raise money for charity. I have been so very honored to be able to coordinate this show for all these years.
Thank You All!
Charles Williams
